Summer

Costa Rica Mission Adventure

Gentry and Gannon are embarking on a special international scouting trip for 8 days in Costa Rica during the first week of August. We are so excited that Ben Murray, our nephew, will be joining them. Ben spent several months planning for a trip to Africa this summer that did not transpire. We were all disappointed and wondered what God might have in mind. Well, it is to join in scouting out missions opportunities for next year.

In July, Sure Passage sponsored Make A Mark Ministries speakers Bob Jones and Mike Martin to lead conferences specifically calling  men of Costa Rica to step into the role the Father has for them. (It has been so interesting to us, because Garrett in Argentina is battling the same cultural influences that keep many men disconnected.)  Gentry is heading down to evaluate the impact of these conferences and to see how follow-on trips in 2012 might serve the church of Costa Rica.  He and the guys will also be visiting pastors, orphanages and a Christian camp to determine areas where teams can best serve next year and to research which kind of teams might be the most helpful.  While Gentry is net- working Gannon and Ben will actually be taking on a painting project at the camp.

This trip came together on short notice because we found a great airfare.  All three guys will be able to go for a week for a total cost of $3,000.  If you would like to support Gentry, Gannon and Ben through a special gift to Sure Passage, click here.  We would appreciate your prayers for them to walk in the path God has for them, to meet the right people and see the places  they should see.  Pray for divine insight for the planning of next year’s trips and that God would even today begin to draw teams together for Costa Rica 2012.  And please pray specifically for Ben and Gannon, that their hearts would be molded to the Father’s heart by what they see and learn and how they are able to serve.

The Gardner Family

Here is the latest family news.  Everyone is so kind to be still concerned about Gayleen’s health.  This year marked six years since her cancer diagnosis and five years since the completion of treatment.  We are grateful to God that she remains cancer free.  She continues to care for our family, dofreelance writing and run Summer Funner Theater.

Gentry has been back in the technical consulting world for a year now.  Since June 2010 he has been working as a manager for Olive Technology.  Olive is a company based in Hyderabad India.  Gentry’s team of developers live and work in India.  Gentry is here at the customer site in Colorado Springs and video conference calls with his team via Skype in the evenings.  He travels to India about once a quarter and is really enjoying having an international aspect to his job. It is especially rewarding that Olive is a strong Business as Mission company.

Gannon is eagerly anticipating the start of his sophomore year at Air Academy High School. (Not!)  Actually he had a great freshman year with a smooth adjustment from home school to public high school.  He particularly enjoyed being a starter for the varsity soccer team.  Winning the state championship for the first time in 20 years made it all the more fun.  He continues to play soccer at high levels and look for places God has for him to lead and serve.

Garrett left us in January of this year to study in Argentina.  He worked very hard to earn a spot in a seven year medical school program.  The good news?  The program is free.  The bad news?  The program is half a world away!  Yes, his studies and his life are all in Spanish and yes, he will be able to practice medicine in the US when he is done and completes a US Medical Exam.   He is continuing to serve at the local church in Cordoba, working with the youth and leading worship.

We are very happy to have Gabriel back in Colorado Springs.  He is currently looking for work and seeking God’s direction for the next stage of his life.  We treasure the time we have to be in the same city again and are continuing to believe in the plans God has to use Gabe and his gifting.
